Initial situation: Complex building structure and changed guest structure require optimisation of energy consumption at the Protestant Education and Conference Centre in Pappenheim
With its 164 guest rooms, the Protestant Education and Conference Centre Pappenheim accommodates not only church groups, but also companies and conference guests from business and politics. Spread over several buildings, there are also single and multi-bed rooms, which are also popular with individual travellers. The complex building structure, some of which dates back to the 1950s, the changing guest structure of smaller groups and shorter occupancy periods, as well as legal incentives, were decisive factors in the decision to optimise energy consumption throughout the building.
Solution: Intelligent radiator control better.energy increases energy efficiency at EBZ Pappenheim thanks to LoRaWAN technology
Christian Söllner, Head of Administration at EBZ Pappenheim and responsible for building management, technology and digitalisation, and his team quickly found what they were looking for with the intelligent radiator control system better.energy. The intelligent room control system better.energy is an effective solution for reducing energy consumption in the hotel by up to 30 per cent. By automatically regulating the heating and keeping unoccupied hotel rooms at an efficient level, the smart room control system makes a huge contribution to energy efficiency. The solution ensures optimised energy management and prevents excessive heating in the hotel.
The modern energy management solution follows the smart building concept and is based on the new LoRaWAN data transmission technology. This means that better.energy offers numerous potential savings in terms of energy costs and CO₂ emissions. LoRaWAN enables the efficient use of better.energy in the smart building sector and is therefore even better adapted to the needs of hotels. This is because LoRaWAN offers even more advantages for use in hotels, such as improved stability, longer battery life, high security and data protection as well as scalability.
A total of 57 guest rooms at the EBZ Pappenheim, including bathrooms and conference rooms, were equipped with intelligent LoRaWAN radiator thermostats. The installation of the LoRaWAN gateways and the smart LoRaWAN radiator thermostats was carried out at the Protestant education and conference centre in Pappenheim by the IT and building services departments themselves. The implementation went smoothly and without complications..
Result: Intelligent radiator control system better.energy saves energy and costs at the EBZ Pappenheim and increases guest satisfaction at the same time
The EBZ Pappenheim is not only enthusiastic about the low installation costs of better.energy, but also about the intelligent control system and heating time settings such as day and night setback. The complex building structure of the EBZ Pappenheim and the different uses make it difficult to record the energy savings of better.energy as a percentage at the moment. Head of administration Christian Söllner assumes that they will quickly realise the monetary benefits of using better.energy.
By using the intelligent radiator control system better.energy, the EBZ Pappenheim can not only save energy and therefore costs, but also increase guest satisfaction and reduce staff workload.
